A Doha nel “Katara Beach Volleyball Cup” vincono Brouwer & Meeuwsen, terzo Qatar’s team/ 17° Nicolai-Lupo e Ranghieri-Caminati

Per certi versi sono stati risultati sorprendenti, tanto più se consideriamo chi ha conquistato la medaglia d’argento e chi invece , come la supercoppia statunitense formata da Phil Dalhausser e Nick Lucena non è addirittura saluta sul podio avendo perso la finalina contro la già citata coppia del Qatar.
Ma nella panorama delle sorprese, nel Torneo di Doha, dobbiamo purtroppo mettere anche il ‘soltanto’ 17° posto delle coppie italiana Nicolai-Lupo e Ranghieri Caminati, tanto più che Lupo & Nicolai sono ai vertici delle classifiche mondiali , come certifichiamo in apertura di questo reportage proponendovi come Anteprima News il recente flash by www.federvolley.it .

Dopo l'ottimo esordio nel Major di Fort Lauderdale, da domani gli avieri azzurri Paolo Nicolai e Daniele Lupo saranno impegnati nel torneo di Doha, appuntamento 4 Stelle del World Tour.
Per i vice campioni olimpici si tratterà di un'occasione speciale, in virtù dei punti conquistati in America, infatti, Paolo e Daniele si presenteranno in campo da coppia numero 1 del ranking mondiale: 4520 al pari dei polacchi Losiak-Kantor.
Per il beach volley italiano si tratta di un risultato storico, in passato mai nessuna coppia tricolore era riuscita a conquistare la vetta.
I ragazzi di Matteo Varnier, a caccia della medaglia numero 20 nel World Tour, aggiornano così per l'ennesima volta il libro dei record azzurri.
Nicolai-Lupo infatti i primi beachers italiani ad aver vinto: una medaglia Olimpica (Rio 2016), un torneo del World Tour (Open Fuzhou 2014) e un campionato Europeo (Cagliari 2014), titolo ottenuto anche nel 2016 e 2017.

Prosegue senza soste l'attività del circuito internazionale di beach volley. Dopo il Major di Fort Lauderdale che ha visto le coppie azzurre maschili grandi protagoniste con i vice campioni olimpici Daniele Lupo e Paolo Nicolai fermati in finale solo dai padroni di casa Dalhausser-Lucena, è già tempo di pensare al Torneo 4 stelle di Doha, il KATARA Beach Volleyball Cup, torneo esclusivamente maschile.
A difendere i colori dell'Italia ci saranno proprio i campioni d'Europa che giocheranno nel main draw a partire da mercoledì 7 marzo.
Con loro Alex Ranghieri e Marco Caminati, da domani impegnati nelle qualificazioni e Adrian Carambula che esordirà in stagione con Pasquale Gabriele (anche loro al via dalle qualifiche).

Nelle qualifiche del Torneo 4 stelle di Doha (World Tour) gli azzurri Alex Ranghieri e Marco Caminati non hanno avuto problemi ad accedere al main draw, grazie al successo sui russi Semenov-Leshukov 2-0 (21-17, 21-14). Niente da fare per Carambula-Gabriele, eliminati dagli austriaci Dressler-Seidl 2-0 (21-19, 21-16).

Nel torneo di Doha (World Tour 4 stelle) entrambe le coppie azzurre maschili si sono qualificate per il primo turno ad eliminazione diretta. I vice campioni olimpici Paolo Nicolai e Daniele Lupo si sono imposti all’esordio sui cinesi Ha Likejiang - Wu Jiaxin 2-0 (21-9, 21-14), mentre nel match successivo si sono dovuti arrendere ai norvegesi Mol - Sorum 0-2 (18-21, 24-26).
Percorso inverso per Alex Ranghieri e Marco Caminati, prima battuti dai russi Stoyanovskiy 2-1 (21-16, 18-21, 16-14) e poi vittoriosi sugli svizzeri Heidrich - Gerson 2-1 (21-19, 14-21, 15-12).

Nel torneo di Doha (4 stelle World Tour) si è chiuso con un diciassettesimo posto la corsa degli azzurri Nicolai-Lupo e Ranghieri-Caminati. Le due coppie italiane, entrambe non fortunate nei sorteggi, sono state eliminate dagli spagnoli Herrera-Gavira, 2-0 (21-15, 21-17) sui vice campioni olimpici, e dai lettoni Samoilovs-Smedins che hanno sconfitto 2-0 (21-18, 29-27) Ranghieri-Caminati

Doha, Qatar, March 10, 2018 – Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen won their first FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour gold of 2018 when they defeated Oleg Stoyanovskiy and Igor Velichko in the 4-Star KATARA Beach Volleyball Cup gold medal match on Saturday.
The Dutch pair fought back from losing the first set to beat the Russians 2-1 (20-22, 21-14, 15-11).
“We’ve known them since last week when we played them in Fort Lauderdale, they are a new team and a young team and they played amazingly this whole tournament,” Brouwer said.
Brouwer and Meeuwsen began the year by winning bronze in front of their home fans at the 4-star Dela Beach Open in The Hague.
Now the 2013 world champions have ended their wait for a World Tour gold with their 10th Tour medal, having last topped the podium at the 3-Star Xiamen tournament in April 2017.
“We started off really well in the start of the first set, but we let them back at the end of the first set with our mistakes,” Meeuwsen said. “We kept going forward and going for the next point.
“We stayed cool even if it was a final and I’m really happy with how we played.”
Stoyanovskiy and Velichko were playing in their first World Tour gold medal match since they teamed up as a pair at the start of the year.
They had both won Tour medals with previous partners, and they have now set the bar high for success in future tournaments.
“We are very happy because we played very well this week,” Stoyanovskiy said. “We had to play a very high level of volleyball because of the teams that were here, and that is the key for us to play well and then we can worry about the medals.”
Qatar’s Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan delighted the home crowd by becoming the first Qatari team to win a World Tour medal on home sand when they defeated the USA’s Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena 2-1 (21-19, 19-21, 15-13) in the bronze medal match.
The pair played two tournaments together in 2014 before they went their separate ways, but since they reunited at the end of 2017 their combination of Cherif’s prowess at the net and Ahmed Tijan’s agility at the back has allowed them to develop into a competitive pairing.
“The game was not really easy and we had to fight to the end,” Cherif said. “We were playing against two of the best players in the world, but we had the energy and didn’t give up and fought till the end.”
The 4-Star KATARA Beach Volleyball Cup ran from March 6-10, and took place at the KATARA Cultural Village. It was the fourth time that Doha has hosted an FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour tournament, following competitions in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
