Marta & Viky hanno perso solo al ‘terzo set’ vs Semmler and Holtwick, le vincenti. Evidentemente …it’s Germany Time. Così nel football in Brasile e così nel beach volley a Gstaad. E noi che restiamo in attesa de podio Made in Italy targato Marta Menegatti & Viktoria Orsi Toth, dobbiamo aspettare giorni più fortunati per le beachers azzurre.
Mentre dalla Svizzera e da Gstaad in particolare la Fivb internazionale onora così la supremazia delle tedesche:” First Grand Slam gold as Semmler and Holtwick win all-German affair” precisando poi “ Ilka Semmler and Katrin Holtwick claimed their first ever Grand Slam gold medals when they defeated fellow Germans Karla Borger and Britta Buthe in the Gstaad Grand Slam gold medal match on Sunday”.
E al resto del mondo cosa è rimasto? Qualcosina a livello podio, visto che per il bronzo sempre la Fivb International ha sottolineato quanto segue:” WOMEN/ Kristyna Kolocova and Marketa Slukova continued their impressive run of success in 2014 when they defeated Juliana Felisberta and Maria Antonelli in the bronze medal match”. Con quale andamento match? Il seguente :” The Czech pair dug deep in the first set and then fought back after falling behind early in the second to beat the Brazilians 2-0 (27-25, 21-19).”
Insomma supremazia targata Germania tanto più se guardiamo al ‘sotto podio maschile’ visto che sempre by sito www.fivb.org viene sottolineato quanto segue:” Nick Lucena and Ryan Doherty needed only two sets to beat Germany’s Jonathan Erdmann and Kay Matysik 2-0 (21-19, 21-16) and win the bronze medals”.
Così nel nostro viaggio dentro la tappa del World Tour 2014 sulla sabbia di Gstaad, ci ritroviamo a fermarci addirittura prima dei quarti di finale sia per quanto riguarda gli uomini ( Lupo – Nicolai e fratelli Ingrosso soltanto 17simi) che per quanto riguarda le miss (Menegatti & Orsi Toth soltanto 25esim).

Inizia domani in Svizzera il Grand Slam di Gstaad, che nella prima giornata di gare vedrà le azzurre Daniela Gioria e Laura Giombini impegnate nelle qualificazioni.
Mercoledi' scenderanno in campo Marta Menegatti e Viktoria Orsi Toth, inserite nel tabellone principale, mentre i gemelli Paolo e Matteo Ingrosso partiranno dalle qualifiche. Gli ultimi a esordire saranno giovedi' gli atleti dell'Aeronautica Militare Paolo Nicolai e Daniele Lupo insieme ad Alex Ranghieri e Andrea Tomatis (main draw maschile).

Nelle qualificazioni femminili del Grand Slam di Gstaad le azzurre Daniela Gioria e Laura Giombini sono state eliminate al secondo turno dalle russe Ukolova-Prokopeva 2-0 (21-19,21-14). In precedenza le ragazze di Paulao avevano sconfitto le svizzere Betschart-Eiholzer 2-0 (21-18, 21-17).
Domani nel main draw femminile esordiranno Marta Menegatti e Viktoria Orsi-Toth, mentre nelle qualificazioni maschili saranno impegnati Paolo e Matteo Ingrosso. Giovedi' sara' poi la volta degli atleti dell'Aeronautica Militare Paolo Nicolai e Daniele Lupo insieme ad Alex Ranghieri e Andrea Tomatis (main draw maschile).

All'esordio nel Grand Slam di Gstaad le azzurre Menegatti-Orsi Toth sono state superate dalle tedesche Holtwick-Semmler 2-1 (21-11, 14-21, 16-14). Marta e Viktoria torneranno in campo alle ore 16 per affrontare le ceche Kolocova-Slukova.

Nel Grand Slam di Gstaad le azzurre Marta Menegatti e Viktoria Orsi Toth hanno esordito con due sconfitte: 2-1 (21-11, 14-21, 16-14) contro le tedesche Holtwick-Semmler e poi sempre al tie-break 2-1 (21-19, 17-21, 15-8) per mano di Kolocova-Slukova. Domani Menegatti-Orsi Toth si giocheranno il passaggio del turno contro le cinesi Y.Y. Ma-X. Y. Xia (ore 14).
Buone notizie arrivano invece dai gemelli Paolo e Matteo Ingrosso che si sono qualificati al tabellone principale dopo aver battuto gli svizzeri Sutter-Sutter 2-0 (21-17, 21-15) e i norvegesi Horrem-Eithun 2-1 (18-21, 21-16, 15-11). Nel Grand Slam di Gstaad le azzurre Marta Menegatti e Viktoria Orsi-Toth hanno chiuso al 25esimo posto. Le ragazze di Paulao nell'ultimo incontro del proprio girone hanno superato le cinesi 2-1 Y.Y. Ma-X. Y. Xia (16-21, 21-18, 15-13), terminando con lo stesso numero di punti in classifica sia delle coppia asiatica che delle tedesche Holtwick-Semmler. In casi come questo il regolamento per stilare la graduatoria finale della pool prevede il ricorso alla classifica avulsa tra i quozienti punti negli scontri diretti delle le tre coppie. In virtu' del peggior quoziente punti le italiane si sono classificate cosi' all'ultimo posto del girone, non qualificandosi per il primo turno ad eliminazione diretta

Due coppie italiane su tre avanzano alla fase ad eliminazione diretta nel main draw maschile di Gstaad. Paolo e Matteo Ingrosso si sono imposti al termine di un lunghissimo tie-break (in cui hanno avuto 8 match-point prima di chiudere al nono) sugli australiani Kapa-McHugh per 2-1 (15-21 21-18 26-24). In precedenza Lupo-Nicolai anche se sconfitti da Stiekema-Varenhorst (Ned) 2-1 (21-13 17-21 15-12) si erano qualificati chiudendo al terzo posto la loro pool vinta proprio dagli orange. Non ce l'hanno fatta a proseguire la loro corsa Tomatis-Ranghieri sconfitti 2-0 (21-13 21-16) dagli austriaci Doppler-Horst.

Si è chiusa con due 17mi posti l'avventura delle coppie azzurre nel Grand Slam di Gstaad. Gli ultimi ad uscire sono stati Lupo e Nicolai battuti dagli austriaci Huber-Seidl 2-0 (21-14, 21-19) e Paolo e Matteo Ingrosso superati da Kadziola-Szalankiewicz 2-1 (24-22, 18-21, 17-15).

(All eyes on Transavia Grand Slam as Tour get ready for World Champs warm-up )
Gstaad, Switzerland, July 13, 2014 – With the Gstaad Grand Slam wrapped up for another successful year the attention of the beach volleyball world will now turn to the Netherlands when the FIVB World Tour heads to the Transavia Grand Slam, which runs from July 15-20.
The tournament will be spread out over three sites – in The Hague, Apledoorn and Amsterdam – and the leading teams will be using it to hone their preparations for the 2015 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships, which will be held across The Netherlands.
For men’s silver and bronze medallists Alison Cerutti and Bruno Schmidt and Nick Lucena and Ryan Doherty their progress to the Gstaad podium comes with the added bonus of neither having to play in the qualifying rounds as they did in the Swiss Alps.
“It will be the first one when we’re not in the qualifiers and that is all we are looking forward to,” Lucena said. “It is a new tournament and one we are looking forward to.”
First Grand Slam gold as Semmler and Holtwick win all-German affair
Ilka Semmler and Katrin Holtwick claimed their first ever Grand Slam gold medals when they defeated fellow Germans Karla Borger and Britta Buthe in the Gstaad Grand Slam gold medal match on Sunday.
It was the first time that two German teams had met in an FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour final and Semmler and Holtwick enjoyed the best of a tightly-fought match to win 2-0 (24-22, 21-16).
The week started badly as they won only one of their pool play matches and narrowly squeezed through to the elimination rounds, an echo of their recent slump when they were eliminated from the Berlin and Moscow Grand Slams at the pool stage.
“I can’t sum up how it feels because there are so many emotions,” Semmler said.
“I’m excited, I could cry and I could scream. I never imagined we would win this tournament here.”
Dalhausser and Rosenthal make it back-to-back gold with Gstaad success
Phil Dalhausser and Sean Rosenthal won a second consecutive World Tour gold medal when they defeated Alison Cerutti and Bruno Schmidt in the Gstaad Gold medal match on Sunday.
The American pair won the previous tournament, the Stavanger Grand Slam and they continued their strong form in the Swiss Alps when they defeated the Brazilians 2-0 (21-17, 21-17) after a match that pitted Dalhausser against Alison at the net and Rosenthal and Bruno at the back of the court.
“We keep getting better and better,” Rosenthal said. “When Phil can serve and block like that and I’m picking up tough balls at the back we’re going to be a pretty tough team to beat.
“I need to be a bit steadier on my passing there when it gets towards the end, but all in all it has been a great week for us and we’re stoked to come out with the win our second gold in a row.”
The double-gender US$800,000 FIVB Gstaad Grand Slam ran from Wednesday, July 9 until Sunday July 13 when the men’s and women’s medal matches took place. It was the ninth event and the fifth Grand Slam on the 2014 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour calendar that features nine Grand Slams and 11 Open tournaments.
The 2014 World Tour began at the Fuzhou Open in China in April and concludes at the Durban Open in South Africa in December. Next up on the World Tour calendar is the Transavia Hague Grand Slam which runs from July 15-20. >>
