Ci sono giorni e …ci sono giorni. Vale ovviamente per le azzurre Greta & Marta, le due girls che seguiamo con affetto, sognando per loro , cioè Cicolari & Menegatti, le Olimpiadi di Londra 2012. Ma oramai siamo “world site” ed allora eccovi ‘completely’ questa tappa di Shanghai, dove il World Tour 2012 ha incoronato non a caso le “idoli cinesi”. Onore quindi anche da parte nostra alle “Golden Winners” Chen Xue and Zhang Xi, che hanno messo in fila sul podio le brasiliane Taliat/Antonelli e Juliana/Larissa. Per quanto riguarda il 17° posto delle italiane Cicolari/Menegatti e Gioria/Momoli, beh eccovi il loro viaggio a Shanghai giorno per giorno, news by news, dall’anteprima alle finali per il podio.

<<Alla disperata ricerca di punti utili per raggiungere la qualificazione olimpica Daniela Gioria e Giulia Momoli si qualificano per il Main Draw del Grand Slam di Shanghai di Beach Volley.
Nonostante un derby italiano nelle qualificazioni non sia mai una situazione facile, Daniela Gioria e Giulia Momoli continuano l'inseguimento del loro sogno olimpico qualificandosi per il Main Draw del Grand Slam di Beach Volley di Shanghai, prima di quattro prove a punteggio maggiorato che daranno il volto finale al ranking di qualificazione olimpica.
Le azzurre hanno dovuto sconfiggere nel primo turno delle qualificazioni le giovani Laura Giombini e Viktoria Orsi Toth con il punteggio di 2-0 (21-15, 21-17).
Nel turno decisivo Gioria-Momoli hanno poi sconfitto le britanniche Mullin e Dampney con il punteggio di 2-0 (21-19, 21-16) qualificandosi per le poule del Main Draw che saranno definite nel pomeriggio.>>

Nel primo Grand Slam della stagione che si sta svolgendo a Shanghai inizio in salita per le azzurre Cicolari-Menegatti e Gioria-Momoli.
Le prime all'esordio nel main draw sono state sconfitte dalle olandesi Meppelink-van Gestel 1-2 (13-21, 21-19, 8-15), mentre le seconde sono state superate dalle campionesse olimpiche Walsh-May-Treanor 2-0 (21-9, 21-14) e dalla coppia australiana Bawden-Palmer 2-0 (21-14, 21-10)
Nella notte italiana, la mattinata cinese, le due coppie azzurre affronteranno il terzo incontro della poule che definirà le prime tre coppie che da ogni poule si qualificheranno per il tabellone ad eliminazione diretta.
Daniela Gioria e Giulia Momoli affronteranno le tedesche Kohler e Sude in uno spareggio per la terza posizione e il passaggio al primo turno; Greta Cicolari e Marta Menegatti saranno opposte alle brasiliane Vivian e Lima, autrici oggi di due vittorie.

<< Nel Grand Slam di Shanghai di Beach Volley procede nel migliore dei modi il cammino nella poule degli azzurri Paolo Nicolai e Daniele Lupo che dopo aver battuto i norvegesi Skarlund-Spinnangr 2-1 (19-21, 21-16, 15-13), si sono ripetuti contro gli olandesi Stiekema-Varenhorst 2-0 (21-19, 21-14). Domani Daniele e Paolo si giocheranno il primo posto nella pool contro i Campioni del Mondo Alison-Emanuel.
Sul fronte femminile doppia eliminazione per le coppie azzurre, entrambe classificatesi al diciassettesimo posto. Cicolari-Menegatti sono state superate dalle australiane Cook-Hinchley 2-0 (21-12, 21-19), mentre Gioria-Momoli ceduto contro le canadesi Bansley-Maloney 2-0 (21-14, 21-19).

<< Keizer and Van Iersel remain on course for defence of gold medal at Shanghai Grand Slam
Shanghai, China, May 4, 2012 – Sanne Keizer and Marleen Van Iersel kept their defence of the Shanghai title on track, when they reached the semifinals of the Shanghai Grand Slam presented by Jinshan Xinchen.
The Dutch pair were pushed all the way in their quarterfinal by Spain’s Liliana Fernandez and Elsa Baquerizo to win 21-16, 19-21, 16-14.
In the semifinals Keizer and Van Iersel will play Brazil’s in form Maria Antonelli and Talita Antunes.
Fernandez and Baquerizo were in confident mood after they had knocked out fourth seeds Kerri Walsh and Misty May Treanor with a 13-21, 21-14, 15-10 victory and they put up strong resistance after losing the first set.

Shanghai, China, May 5, 2012 – Chen Xue and Zhang Xi overpowered Brazil’s Maria Antonelli and Talita Antunes 21-17, 21-18 to win the gold medal at the Shanghai Grand Slam presented by Jinshan Xinchen on Saturday.
Playing before a capacity crowd at Jinshan Beach Arena, the Chinese top seeds picked up their second gold medal of the 2012 FIVB SWATCH World Tour.
“Shanghai is a lucky place for us,” Chen said. “We won the title six years ago and now we have it again today. We aren’t in the best condition physically, but our mental strength pulled us through.”
Chen left the court with her right foot bandaged, but appeared to be suffering no obvious ill effects in the medal presentation ceremony.
“I will have some treatment in Beijing before the next tournament,” she said.
Chen Xue and Zhang Xi have started 2012 in excellent form and after they took gold at the opening event of the year at the Brasilia Open, they then added bronze at the Olympic Bay Sanya Open.
In fact it was a day of double success over Brazilians for the Chinese pair after they beat Larissa and Juliana in straight sets (21-17, 21-13) in the semifinals, reversing a semifinal loss to the 2011 FIVB world champions in Sanya.
“We help each other and if there are any problems, we try and solve it together,” Zhang said. “Normally, if we were in our best condition we should win, but as we aren’t in the best physical condition we had to concentrate on each point.”
While Talita and Maria Antonelli were unable to reproduce their gold-medal heroics from Sanya, they did add another second silver medal to their 2012 haul following their second-place finish in Brasilia.
Earlier in the day, they beat 2011 Shanghai gold medallists Sanne Keizer and Marleen Van Iersel 21-18, 21-18, but were unable to find their rhythm again for the gold-medal match.
“Our start to the year is better than last year and this is an important year,” Talita said. “Of course, we are not happy that we lost twice against China and they are doing very well this year. Next time we play China we have to be strong all the time and cut out our mistakes.”
BRONZE - MEDAL MATCH
In the bronze-medal match Juliana and Larissa proved too strong for Keizer and Van Iersel and won in straight sets (29-27, 21-13).
After a close-fought first set, the Brazilians proved too strong in the second and collected their second medal of 2012.
“It has given us the chance to learn a lot about this year and given us the chance to get better,” Juliana said. “It is a long season and we hope we can start to play better and improve our confidence from now on.”
The 2012 FIVB SWATCH World Tour runs over a seven-month period and features 12 tournaments for both men and women. For the women, the season started in April in Brazil and ends in October in Thailand.
The $600,000 Shanghai Grand Slam is the second of nine double-gender events and the winners share a $43,500 purse. It is the eighth straight year in which Shanghai has hosted a women’s FIVB SWATCH World Tour event.
Following the completion of the Shanghai Grand Slam, the World Tour moves on to China’s capital for the Beijing Grand Slam (May 7-12).>>
