Quasi sincronizzate le coppie azzurre Daniele Lupo/Paolo Nicolai & Marta Menegatti/ Viktoria Orsi Toth, perché arrivano da un percorso diverso ma a Mosca nella tappa del World Tour. E così il loro 5° posto soddisfa tutto lo staff tecnico azzurro, perché per entrambe le copie la ‘zona podio’ è proprio a due …mani in schiacciata da beachers.

Nelle qualificazioni del torneo di Mosca (World Tour, 4 Stelle) nessun problema per le azzurre Marta Menegatti e Viktoria Orsi Toth. La coppia italiana ha battuto nettamente le russe Mastikova-Petrunina 2-0 (21-7, 21-17), centrando l'accesso nel tabellone principale.
Tra gli uomini niente da fare per gli italiani Boesso-Gabriele, eliminati dai lituani Rumsevicius-Kazdailis 2-0 (21-16, 21-18). Domani faranno il loro esordio nel torneo i vice campioni olimpici Nicolai-Lupo e Caminati-Rossi.

Le coppie azzurre impegnate nel torneo 4 stelle di Mosca hanno disputato le loro prime partite. Il bilancio di questo inizio di tappa è di un successo e due sconfitte. Gli unici ad aggiudicarsi il successo sono stati i vice campioni olimpici Daniele Lupo e Paolo Nicolai, mentre sia Caminati-Rossi sia Menegatti-Orsi Toth si sono dovuti arrendere ai loro rispettivi avversari.

Prima giornata di gare per le coppie azzurre impegnate nel torneo 4 stelle di Mosca. In evidenza i vice campioni olimpici Daniele Lupo e Paolo Nicolai che hanno centrato un doppio successo. In mattinata i ragazzi di Matteo Varnier hanno avuto la meglio sui russi Hudyakov/Bykanov per poi bissare il successo nel pomeriggio contro i brasiliani Alison/Andre conquistando così l’accesso diretto agli ottavi. Discorso diverso per le altre due coppie in gara: Caminati-Rossi e Menegatti-Orsi Toth, infatti, si sono dovuti arrendere ai loro rispettivi avversari nel loro primo match della competizione.

Nel torneo 4 stelle di Mosca avanzano ai turni ad eliminazione diretta le coppie azzurre. Dopo la qualificazione diretta agli ottavi ottenuta già ieri dai vicecampioni olimpici Lupo/Nicolai questa mattina è stato il turno di Menegatti/Orsi Toth e Caminati/Rossi che dopo le vittorie di questa mattina hanno guadagnato l'accesso al primo turno.
Successivamente le ragazze allenate da Terenzio Feroleto hanno battuto le statunitensi Flint-Day conquistando gli ottavi di finale.

QUINTA NEWS ( by www.federvolley.it, il 10/08/2018 ) / World Tour Mosca: due coppie azzurre ai quarti di finale
Nel torneo 4 stelle di Mosca procede spedita la corsa di due coppie azzurre sulle tre in gara. Nel tabellone femminile Marta Menegatti e Viktoria Orsi Toth confermano il loro buon momento di forma conquistando l’accesso ai quarti di finale in programma domani grazie a una giornata davvero positiva. Le ragazze allenate da Terenzio Feroleto, infatti, oggi hanno centrato ben tre successi. Il primo nell’ultimo match della fase a pool disputato in mattina contro le elvetiche Calouri/Gerson, il secondo (primo turno ad eliminazione diretta) contro le statunitensi Flint-Day per poi chiudere la giornata con la vittoria contro le australiane Clancy-Artacho Del Solar che, come detto, è valsa la qualificazione ai quarti nei quali se la vedranno con le brasiliane Agatha-Duda.
Buone notizie arrivano anche dal tabellone maschile dove i vice campioni olimpici Daniele Lupo e Paolo Nicolai battendo gli svizzeri Heidrich/Gerson nel secondo turno ad eliminazione diretta conquistato già ieri in virtù della partenza lanciata nella pool si sono qualificati anch’essi ai quarti di finale dove affronteranno i lettoni Smedins/Samoilovs.
Concluso invece il torneo di Marco Caminati ed Enrico Rossi che dopo aver battuto in mattinata i francesi Krou/Aye e successivamente i tedeschi Thole/Wickler si sono arresi ai forti spagnoli Herrera/Gavira chiudendo così al nono posto.

Si è conclusa ai quarti di finale la corsa delle due coppie azzurre nel 4 stelle in corso di svolgimento a Mosca collezionando così due quinti posti.
Nel tabellone femminile Marta Menegatti e Viktoria Orsi Toth questa mattina si sono arrese alle brasiliane Agatha/Duda con il punteggio di 2-0 (24-22, 21-17). Per le due ragazze dell’Aeronautica Militare si tratta comunque di un buon quinto posto in termini di continuità di rendimento dal loro recente ritorno in campo assieme.
Stessa sorte per i vice campioni olimpici Daniele Lupo e Paolo Nicolai che nel match che avrebbe potuto spalancare le porte delle semifinali si sono arresi al tie-break ai lettoni Smedins/Samoilvs dopo aver vinto il primo parziale.

Moscow, Russia, August 12, 2018 – Aleksandrs Samoilovs and Janis Smedins won their second FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour gold medal of 2018 when they defeated Alison Cerutti and Andre Steyn in the Moscow 4-Star gold medal match on Sunday.
The Latvian pair beat the Brazilian duo 2-0 (21-18, 21-13) to win in the Russian capital for a second time. Their first victory came in 2013, their first season in tandem.
“We had such a big points difference and the thing we had to do was stay focused, which isn’t always easy to do,” Smedins said. “I was a little bit lazy at the end and they came back a bit. It was good for us that we had such a big difference.
“Alison was playing very well in block and defence and he made me struggle today.”
Samoilovs and Smedins first gold of the year came at the Espinho 4-Star in Portugal, and it is their 10th on the World Tour since they paired up at the start of 2013. It is also the second time that they have won gold in Russia’s capital having topped the podium in their first season together.
The duo has been in strong form over the summer and they also won silver at the CEV European Championships and bronze at the Fort Lauderdale 5-Star and Warsaw 4-Star to book their place at the Hamburg 2018 FIVB World Tour Finals.
“They are such a good team with Olympic and World Championships gold medals between them,” Samoilovs said. “They started really well and then they lost their rhythm and we just focused on the next point and that meant everything went well for us.”
Moscow-born Oleg Stoyanovskiy and Igor Velichko gave the Moscow crowd plenty to cheer when they beat Brazil’s Evandro Goncalves and Vitor Felipe 2-0 (21-12, 21-10) in the bronze medal match.
The Russians drew inspiration from a vociferous centre court crowd and quickly took control. Stoyanovskiy was in powerful form at the net and Velichko was a ball of energy at the back of the court.
It is the second year in a row that Stoyanovskiy has appeared on the Moscow podium, after he and Artem Yarzutkin won bronze in 2017.
“It a big honour for me to play here in front of my friends and family and a special moment to win a medal,” Stoyanovskiy said. “It is the second year in a row as I won bronze here last year and I’m very happy.
“They are a really good team and Evandro is a world champ, so we prepared well for them and we did what we trained to do.”
The Moscow 4-Star was the last 4-Star tournament in the 2017-18 season, and ran from August 8-12. The final tournament to take place is the Hamburg 2018 FIVB World Tour Finals that run from August 15-19.

Ross and Hughes hit top spot in Moscow
Moscow, Russia, August 12, 2018 – Summer Ross and Sara Hughes ensured that their first season together on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour has a golden glow to it when they won the final of the Moscow 4-Star tournament on Sunday.
The US pair defeated Brazil’s Agatha Bednarczuk and Eduarda ‘Duda’ Santos Lisboa 2-1 (21-19, 12-21, 15-12) in their first World Tour final since they teamed up for The Hague 4-Star in January.
“That was so amazing,” Hughes said. “My first World Tour final and being in the final meant everything.
“I am so glad I had this girl by my side. Brazil played great, but we competed hard to come out with the win.”
In July Ross, 25, and Hughes, 23, won their first World Tour medal when they left the Espinho 4-Star with the bronze medal in their luggage.
Gold means that Ross has improved on the silver medal she won in the Russian capital in 2017, when she was playing alongside Brooke Sweat.
The pair competed well in the first set, but the Brazilians dominated the second. However, Hughes scored the first point of the tie-break to settle their nerves. They then took control of the match and stayed calm when victory was in sight.
“We knew that the first point meant everything,” Ross said. “We just had to get every point we could get and somehow we got through.”
Switzerland’s Tanja Huberli and Nina Betschart won their second World Tour medal of the year when they defeated Germany’s Julia Sude and Chantal Laboureur in the bronze medal match.
The teams pushed each other hard through the first set, before the Swiss duo edged it at the end. In the second their confidence flowed through their play as they dominated the set and won the match 2-0 (21-19, 21-12).
“I think we had good serve pressure at the beginning of the first set so we were able to set up our pass and set,” Huberli said. “It meant we were able to play with more confidence on the serve as well as the side-out.”
Along with their two World Tour medals Huberli and Betschart won silver at the CEV European Championships to record their best medal haul for a season.
“If you count the medals it is our best, but our results aren’t the best,” Betschart said. “I think last season was a little bit easy for us, but we’ve improved as players and as a team, and it is really cool that we’ve won three medals this year.”
The Moscow 4-Star was the last 4-Star tournament in the 2017-18 season, and ran from August 8-12. The final tournament to take place is the Hamburg 2018 FIVB World Tour Finals that run from August 15-19.

Americans Summer Ross and Sara Hughes and Latvians Aleksandrs Samoilovs will get to Hamburg to compete in the Beach Volleyball FIVB World Tour Finals presented by Vodafone in good spirits as the teams won the gold medals in the four-star event in Moscow, their last stop before they head to the German harbour city.
In the women’s tournament, Summer and Hughes won their first World Tour gold medal as a team in just the ninth tournament since they decided to team up, back in March. The Americans needed all three sets (21-19, 12-21, 15-12) to overcome Brazilians Agatha Bednarczuk and Duda Lisboa, who are also headed to Hamburg next week.
“That was so amazing,” Hughes said. “My first World Tour final and being in the final meant everything. I am so glad I had this girl by my side. Brazil played great, but we competed hard to come out with the win.”
