QUARTA MAIN NEWS ( by www.fivb.com, 28, april 2019) / XIAMEN UOMINI / Krasilnikov celebrates birthday with Xiamen gold

Xiamen, China, April 28, 2019 – A special birthday gift for Russia’s Viacheslav Krasilnikov with a final win to take top honours alongside partner Oleg Stoyanovskiy at the 2019 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Xiamen Open.

Krasilnikov turns 28 in Xiamen and takes home an extra gift after the unstoppable Russians earned a convincing win over Spain’s Pablo Herrera Allepuz and Adrián Gavira Collado, 2-0 (21-19, 21-13).

“This is a special gift on this special day. I have to thank all the team behind us, our coach, physio, doctor and everyone for helping us so much in this big success,” said Krasilinokov.

Russia put the service pressure on Herrera/Gavira from the word go, but the Spanish team had also brought their best game on court and the scores remained even in the first set.

With Stoyanovskiy standing 205cm at the net and Krasilnikov almost impenetrable in defence, two side-outs from Stoyankovskiy took the Russians one set ahead in the final.

In the second set the Russian pressure was relentless. Even with Herrera and Gavira putting in their fair share of big hits, they were just unable to make an impression on Stoyankovskiy/Krasilnikov and the Russians took their second gold as a team after The Hague this year.

“It was a tough match because other days it was cloudy and today is sunny and really hot. I have to say a big thanks to my partner who played really well today,” said Stoyanovskiy.

One year previously in Xiamen, Stoyanovskiy and Krasilnikov were on opposite sides of the net in the gold medal match with Stoyanovskiy winning alongside former partner Igor Velichko. Stoyanovskiy and Krasilnikov teamed up at the end of 2018 and are proving to be a formidable force together.

“When we played separately we played very well. There was a moment when we sat together and we thought, ok, you are a good defender, I am a good blocker, let’s play together and let’s see what we can do,” said Stoyanovskiy.

“We have had amazing results together, we have had five tournaments and four medals, four finals,” said Stoyanovskiy.

Stoyanovskiy/Krasilinokov’s next FIVB World Tour appearance will be back in China at the Jinjiang 4-Star next month.

The silver for Herrera/Gavira is their second medal of the year after taking bronze in the Doha 4-Star last month. The Spanish team also had an impressive run in Xiamen and were the ones to knock out number one seeds, Norway’s Anders Mol and Christian Sørum.

Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan from Qatar take home the bronze medal after turning around the match against Italy’s Enrico Rossi and Adrian Ignacio Carambula Raurich, 2-1 (13-21, 21-15, 15-10).

Italy were visibly in control of the first set taking an early five point lead and pulling away after a number of costly Qatari errors. The second set was a different story and a run of big blocks from Cherif pushed Qatar ahead 15-8 and sent the match into the tie-break.

In the third Cherif/Ahmed came out powerfully and took back control of the match and earn their third FIVB bronze medal.
“Thank goodness we finished the game, it was tough in the beginning, but we managed to come back in the second and third, but it wasn’t easy. Especially with this weather and the conditions. It was a tough game against them and we were feeling a little bit tired from yesterday. But we were so focused on the third place so that helped us to come back after the first set,” said Cherif.

“We just focused because it’s not easy with this kind of sky-ball, it’s very hard with the wind, you have to concentrate a lot. But fortunately we could receive the balls. They are such a good team, but we gave 100% and got the results and getting this bronze medal is so good for us,” said Ahmed.

The FIVB World Tour returns to China with the Jinjiang 4-Star next month, from May 21 to 26.

QUINTA &  NEWS ( by www.fivb.org , Beach volleyball 28/04/2019 ) / Ana Patricia & Rebecca victorious in XiamenXiamen
China, April 28, 2019 – Ana Patricia Silva Ramos and Rebecca Cavalcanti Barbosa Silva take home gold for Brazil defeating top seeds, Marketa Slukova & Barbara Hermannova in the final match of the 2019 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Xiamen Open.

The wind on Guanyinshan Beach provided tricky serving conditions on centre court, but Hermannova/Slukova quickly forced the Brazilians on the catch-up in the first set. Ana Patricia/Rebecca were finding it hard to get a hold of the game with Hermannova/Slukova effectively avoiding Ana Patricia at the net.

Brazil started to bring themselves back into the game and as soon as Ana Patrica started to get her hands on the block, they brought the score to 20-20. In an astonishing turn-around Ana Patricia/Rebecca finally converted set point to steal the first, 25-23.

With the Czech team taken by surprise, little could separate the two teams in the second. Service errors from both sides accounted for many of the points and it was finally a Czech service error that gave Ana Patricia/Rebecca match point. A dink over the net from Rebecca out of reach for Hermannova/Slukova, gave the young Brazilians their second gold, 2-0 (25-23, 26-24), also winning The Hague 4-Star in January.

“This is very special for us because it’s a very important year because of the upcoming Olympic Games and we’re so, so happy for this win,” said Ana Patricia.

The silver for Hermannova/Slukova is a great start to the year after a long break, their last tournament was the Hamburg World Tour finals in August last year where they also took silver.

“I think this team from Brazil is very talented, very aggressive and a very strong team in almost every aspect. They pushed us to the positions and didn’t execute it how we wanted and we were struggling a little with the timing of calling. Especially we didn’t press them with our own service, this didn’t work today.

“So I think they very much deserved this win, but sad for us. We are very happy that we came so far after a long break, so tomorrow we will start to feel better. Right now I’m a little bit disappointed, but actually it was a very tight game and I think we can be proud of what we achieved in Xiamen,” said Hermannova.

The bronze medal was taken for the second time in a row in Xiamen by Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho. The Australians had a slow start against USA’s Sara Hughes and Summer Ross, but nipped at their heel before a huge point brought the score level to 15-15 in the first. Clancy/Artacho Del Solar then went from strength to strength to close the opening set 21-18.
With it all for USA to do, Clancy/Artacho Del Solar came out stronger than ever in the second establishing a clear lead. Excitement built for the Australians as the bronze came within sight and they closed the match in 31 minutes, 2-0 (21-18, 21-13).

“It was a really good start, we wanted to come out really strong. We feel like this is the start of the season for us, so we’re extremely proud of this result and hopefully we can continue to the next events,” said Clancy.

Their morning semifinal saw them defeated by nemesis Hermannova/Slukova, the Czech team winning 4-0 in head-to-heads with the Australians, 2-0 (21-19, 21-18).

“We’re really happy that we got an opportunity to bounce back from this morning. It’s always special standing on the podium at an international event so really happy that Taliqua and I really stuck together and dug really deep and got the win,” said Artacho Del Solar.

Next stop on the FIVB World Tour will be the Kuala Lumpur 3-Star from 29 April to 4 May.
