A Klagenfurt, Samoilovs-Smedins Campioni d'Europa, silver medal Alex Ranghieri- Adrian Carambula/ Golden Ladies Walkenhorst-Ludwig
E’ arrivato per l’Italia un argento che vale oro: quello di Alex Ranghieri & Adrian Carambula che nella finale a Klagenfurt hanno dato tantissimo ‘filo da torcere’ai neo Campioni d’Europa 2015, cioè i lettoni Samoilovs-Smedins. Complimenti davvero ad Alex & Adrian anche perché erano arrivati in finale battendo l’altra prestigiosa coppia italiana formata da Lupo-Nicolai campioni in carica e …abituati al podio.
Per quanto riguarda invece il Campionato d’Europa femminile, l’Italia aveva molte meno chance, vista l’indisponibilità della coppia Marta Menegatti & Viktori Orsi Toth che però dovrebbe ritornare on the beach nel prossimo appuntamento del Beach Volley World Tour a Long Beach in California se non addirittura dall’11 al 16 di questo mese nell’Open di Istanbul in Turchia.
Intanto a Klagenfurt, per difendere i colori italiano hanno fatto il loro dovere le azzurre Laura Giombini e Giulia Toti che peraltro si sono dovute accontentare del 9° posto visto che si sono dovute arrendere agli ottavi di finale contro le svizzere Forrer – Verg Dépré.
In un torneo dove a fregiarsi del titolo di Campionesse d’Europa 2015 sono state le tedesche Kira Walkenhorst & Laura Ludwig recenti winners altresì a Jokohama ( vedi reportage precedente sempre qui su su www.polesinesport.it ove sono di casa.

La coppia azzurra ha ceduto in finale ai fuoriclasse lettoni Samoilovs-Smedins per 2-0 (21-18 21-18), al termine di una gara in cui ha dato tutto per riuscire a centrare un risultato importantissimo, incredibile per una formazione al primo anno di attività. Alex ed Adrian avevano conquistato il diritto a giocare per il titolo con la vittoria in semifinale per 2-0 (21-17, 21-19) contro gli olandesi Nummerdor-Varenhorst.
Per la coppia tricolore, oltre alla lucente medaglia d'argento rimane la grandissima soddisfazione di aver giocato un torneo da protagonista assoluta contro le più forti formazioni del continente, cedendo soltanto ai neocampioni (sia nella fase a pool che in finale), ma battendo negli ottavi gli altri azzurri Nicolai-Lupo campioni uscenti.>>
PRIMA NEWS ( by www.fedeugby.it, 27-07-2015 ) / Beach volley: al via a Klagenfurt i Campionati Europei
Domani a Klagenfurt, Austria, prenderanno il via i Campionati Europei, evento clou della stagione internazionale continentale di beach volley. Sulla sabbia di una delle location più rappresentative del circuito mondiale si sfideranno le migliori 64 coppie del Vecchio Continente (32 maschili e femminili divise in 8 pool) delle quali cinque saranno italiane, quattro nel tabellone maschile e una in quello femminile.
In casa azzurra grandi assenti saranno Marta Menegatti e Viktoria Orsi Toth costrette a rinunciare a causa di un problema agli addominali accusato dalla beacher rodigina. Nonostante i buoni risultati ottenuti quest’anno nel World Tour, il 2015 purtroppo non può essere considerato un anno fortunato per Marta dato che già nei mesi scorsi ha accusato alcuni problemi fisici che l’hanno costretta a saltare altri appuntamenti, fattori che comunque non hanno impedito alla coppia di essere a buon punto nel percorso di qualificazione olimpica. Unica coppia femminile a scendere in campo saranno quindi Laura Giombini e Giulia Toti nella Pool H.
Nel tabellone maschile i campioni d’Europa in carica Daniele Lupo e Paolo Nicolai saranno affiancati da Ranghieri-Carambula, Paolo e Matteo Ingrosso e Marco Caminati che giocherà con Enrico Rossi. Al termine della fase a gironi cominceranno i match a eliminazione diretta con le gare decisive che decreteranno i vincitori dell’edizione 2015 in programma sabato e domenica.

Si e' conclusa la giornata per gli azzurri impegnati ai Campionati Europei in corso di svolgimento a Klagenfurt. Nel primo match di giornata i gemelli Ingrosso hanno battuto con un netto 2-0 (21-18, 21-19) la coppia tedesca Fluggen-Bockermann. Domani i beachers salentini incontreranno domani i padroni di casa Eglseer–Mullner. Esordio con vittoria anche per i campioni in carica Lupo - Nicolai che hanno battuto al tie-break 2-1 (19-21, 21-13, 15-11) gli inglesi Gregory – Sheaf.

La terza vittoria di giornata per l’Italia è arrivata da Caminati-Rossi che hanno vinto 2-1 (18-21, 23-21,16-14) contro i polacchi Kadziola – Szalankiewicz; il italiano domani se la vedrà con gli austriaci Doppler- Horst. Continua il buon momento di forma delle coppie azzurre impegnate nei Campionati Europei in corso di svolgimento in Austria. I campioni in carica Daniele Lupo e Paolo Nicolai hanno bissato il successo di ieri regolando in due set (21-18, 21-15) i tedeschi Fuchs-Kaczmarek. Stessa cosa per Alex Ranghieri e Adrian Carambula che oggi al tie-break 2-1 (16-21, 21-14, 15-10) hanno avuto la meglio sui padroni di casa Huber-Seidl. Senza intoppi anche il percorso dei gemelli Paolo e Matteo Ingrosso che, anche loro al tie-break, 2-1 (21-14, 18-21, 15-12) sono riusciti a battere gli austriaci Eglseer-Mullner. Grazie alle due vittorie in altrettanti incontri le tre coppie italiane sono già sicure del passaggio del turno. Unico ko di giornata tra i ragazzi quello di Caminati-Rossi che si sono arresi a 2-0 (22-20, 21-17) a Doppler-Horst. Anche nel tabellone femminile continua nel migliori dei modi il percorso di Laura Giombini e Giulia Toti che dopo aver vinto l’ultimo match del raggruppamento contro le russe Dabizha-Abalakina per 2-0 (21-17, 23-21), nel pomeriggio hanno battuto 2-1 (19-21, 21-17, 15-10) anche le finlandesi Hasu-Parkkinen guadagnando così l’accesso agli ottavi di finale dove domani affronteranno le svizzere Forrer – Verg Dépré.

Si chiude con un nono posto la rassegna continentale di Giulia Toti e Laura Giombini che questa mattina si sono arrese agli ottavi di finale contro le svizzere Forrer – Verg Dépré con il punteggio di 2-0 (21-10, 21-17). Per il duo italiano si e' trattato di un buon torneo, durante il quale ha dimostrato ulteriori miglioramenti rispetto a a quanto già di buono fatto vedere durante la stagione, come ad esempio gli European Games di Baku.

Sono due le coppie italiane rimaste in gara negli ottavi dell'Europeo maschile a Klagenfurt: Lupo-Nicolai e Ranghieri-Carambula, che si affronteranno tra di loro.
La giornata si è iniziata con il terzo successo per Daniele Lupo e Paolo Nicolai che nell'ultimo match del raggruppamento hanno battuto 2-0 (27-25, 21-15) i russi Semenov-Krasilnikov e sono entrati negli ottavi di finale; Ranghieri-Caramobula, dopo aver ceduto nell'ultima gara della pool ai forti lettoni Samoilovs-Smedins per 2-0 (21-17 21-18), hanno vinto il primo turno dell'eliminazione con i francesi Krou-Salvetti, battuti in scioltezza 2-0 (21-12
Giornata poco positiva per le altre due coppie italiane che hanno concluso al 17mo posto. Alex Ranghieri e Adrian Carambula hanno conquistato l’accesso alle semifinali dei Campionati Europei di beach volley in corso di svolgimento a Klagenfurt, Austria. German Golden Girls Top Memorable Days / Germany's Kira Walkenhorst (left) and Laura Ludwig secure gold medal at Saturday's European Championships in Klagenfurt, Austria.
Klagenfurt, Austria, August 1, 2015 - Saturday was a day to remember at the 23rd European Championships as Germany's Laura Ludwig captured her third continental gold medal, the Polish women reached the podium for the first-time in the event and a marriage proposal before 6,000 center court fans prior to the bronze medal match.
The day’s most emotional moment occurred prior to the women’s third-place match as second referee Jonas Personeni of Switzerland proposed to his long-time girlfriend, Nina Hobi, who was caught by surprise but did not lose her composure as she was due to perform as first referee of the bronze medal match on the Lake Wolthesse center court, the place where she had first met her future husband exactly eight years ago.
Ludwig joined an elite club of triple European champions as she and Kira Walkenhorst posted a 2-0 (21-18, 21-18) win in 37-minutes over Evgenia Ukolova and Ekaterina Birlova of Russia to capture the women's gold medal. The Germans dropped only one set in winning seven-straight Klagenfurt matches to improve their personal winning streak to 12.
Prior to the European Championships, Ludwig and Walkenhorst won their last five matches in Japan to capture the gold medal at the Yokohama Grand Slam for their second FIVB World Tour title together. The Japanese title was the second in Asia as the German's captured the Chinese Grand Slam gold medal in 2014 at Shanghai.
“It feels almost unreal to win two tournaments within seven days,” Walkenhorst, who missed most of the 2014 season due to injuries. “To win our second tournament of the season here in Klagenfurt is just terrific and on top of this, it is a European Championships," said Ludwig.
Italy’s Laura Bruschini and Annamaria Solazzi teamed to become the first three-time women's European champions by netting the 1997, 1999 and 2000 crowns. Ludwig captured her first two continental titles on home sand in 2008 (Hamburg) and 2010 (Berlin) with her Olympic partner Sara Goller Niedrig. The Laciga brothers (Martin and Paul) won three-straight men's titles (1998-2000) as did Dutchmen Reinder Nummerdor and Richard Schuil (2008-2010).
As the most decorated man or woman player in European Championships, the 2015 event was Ludwig's 11th continental final as she has captured eight medals with two silvers and three bronzes to her credit along with nine "final four" appearances. She has combined with Goller Niedrig (36-8, five medals) and Walkenhorst (19-3, three medals) to post a 55-11 match mark in the 11 continental finals.
Poland's "historic day" was highlighted by Kinga Kolosinska and Monika Brzostek's 2-0 (21-17, 22-20) bronze medal win in 40 minutes over Natalia Dubovcova and Dominika Nestarcova of the Slovak Republic. Earlier in the day, the Polish ladies dropped a 2-0 (21-17, 21-13) decision in 33 minutes to Birlova and Ukolova while the Slovakians were defeated 2-0 (21-18, 21-18) in 37 minutes to Ludwig and Walkenhorst.
“We are just speechless,” Kolosinska said after the match as Poland had been a major force in women's age-group competitions for a number of years already but not quite able to be as successful at the ‘senior’ level.
“We have been working very hard for three years and now we have very good coaches, something which makes the difference at this level,” Brzostek said. “We do hope that this medal will help us get more support and will provide more women’s teams from Poland with the opportunity to play also on the World Tour. You need to join the international circuit in order to improve and become competitive at the highest level."
Brzostek added "this is a great result and now we are hoping that the guys will take another medal for Poland also in the men’s competition. That would be a perfect way to cap this great week here in Klagenfurt."
Unfortunately for Brzostek and Poland, the men dropped three-straight elimination matches to teams from The Netherlands to finish ninth and fifth in the competition. Nummerdor and Christiaan Varenhorst scored a pair of three-set wins over Polish teams Saturday to advance to the semi-finals of the European Championships along with compatriots Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen.
Nummerdor and Varenhorst's first Polish victory Saturday was a 2-1 (15-21, 21-19, 17-15) "Sweet 16" win in 46 minutes over Michal Kadziola and Jakub Szalankiewicz. The Dutch's second victory over a Poland pair was a 2-1 (21-18, 14-21, 15-10) "Elite 8" decision in 52 minutes over Grzegorz Fijalek and Mariusz Prudel. Brouwer and Meeuwsen advanced to the “final four” with a 2-0 (21-19, 24-22) win in 42 minutes over Piotr Kantor and Bartosz Losiak of Poland.
In the other men’s quarter-final matches, Adrian Carambula and Alex Ranghieri of Italy ousted Clemens Doppler and Alexander Horst of Austria 2-0 (21-17, 23-21) in 44 minutes while Aleksandrs Samoilovs and Janis Smedins of Latvia avenged a setback to Pablo Herrera and Adrian Gavira in the 2013 European finals by defeating the Spaniards 2-0 (21-18, 24-22) in 41 minutes.
Carambula and Ranghieri will meet Nummerdor and Varenhorst in the first semi-final as the Italians will be seeking their second win over the Dutchmen after winning a FIVB World Tour bronze medal match last month in Porec, Croatia. Samoilovs and Smedins will also playing Brouwer and Meeuwsen for the second time this season at the Latvians posted a three-set semi-final win over the Dutch pair at last month’s Gstaad Major in Switzerland.
The 2015 European Championships also produced Olympic qualifying points for the Rio 2016 Summer Games. Although the Olympic rankings are “only provisional”, Ludwig and Walkenhorst added 500 points (ranked second overall) to their total with the Russians 450 (ninth), the Poles 400 (tied for 11th) and the Slovakians 350 (14th).
As the host country for the 2016 Olympics, Brazil has already secured its two spots in both the men’s and women’s competition in Rio. The second Brazilian berth in the 2016 Summer Games to be played on Copacabana beach was earned by winning the men’s and women’s world championships last month in The Netherlands.

Klagenfurt, Austria, August 2, 2015 - It was the “expected” vs. the “unexpected” here Sunday for the gold medal at 23rd European Championships as two-time FIVB World Tour champion Aleksandrs Samoilovs and Janis Smedins of Latvia met international rookie Adrian Carambula and Alex Ranghieri of Italy the top spot on the continental podium.
In the end, the experience of Samoilovs and Smedins provided the difference as the Latvia posted a 2-0 (21-18, 21-18) win in 39 minutes over Carambula and Ranghieri to capture their country’s first-ever men’s European championship after the pair had finished second in the last two editions in Klagenfurt and Cagliari, Italy.
The women's team of Inese Jursone and Inguna Minusa were the first Latvian team to win a gold medal at the European Championships. The podium-topping performance was unexpected as Jursone and Minusa upset defending champions Sara Goller and Laura Ludwig for the gold medal in Sochi, Russia.
It was the Latvians second win over Carambula and Ranghieri in the competition as Samoilovs and Smedins posted a 2-0 (21-17, 21-18) victory over the Italians in 41 minutes Friday in a pool play match. The win also avenged a setback to Italy in the gold medal match at the 2014 European Championships when Daniele Lupo and Paolo Nicolai defeated the Latvians in three sets.
In addition to topping the Klagenfurt podium, Samoilovs and Smedins garnered 500 points towards qualifying for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Although the Olympic rankings are “only provisional” as a team must compete in 12 FIVB World Tour (including continental championships), the Latvians moved into the No. 15 spot on the list ahead of Carambula and Ranghieri by 50 points (2,180-2,130).
The top 15 teams on the FIVB World Tour’s Olympic ranking list qualify a spot for their country in the Rio Summer Games. As the host country for the 2016 Olympics, Brazil has already secured its two spots in both the men’s and women’s competition in Rio. In the all-Dutch bronze medal match Sunday, Reindeer Nummerdor and Christiaan Varenhorst posted a 2-0 (21-18, 21-16) win in 36 minutes over compatriots Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen. It was the fourth meeting internationally between the two teams with the series now tied 2-2.
Samoilovs and Smedins, who missed four-straight FIVB World Tour events this season due to a knee injury, posted a 2-0 (21-18, 21-19) win in 38 minutes over Brouwer and Meeuwsen in Sunday’s morning’s second semi-final match. It was the Latvians second semi-final win over Brouwer and Meeuwsen in the last three weeks as Samoilovs and Smedins defeated the Dutch at the Gstaad Major July 12.
Carambula and Ranghieri posted 2-0 (21-17, 21-19) semi-final win in 40 minutes over Nummerdor and Varenhorst to advance to the finals. The Italians are now 2-0 this season against Nummerdor and Varenhorst as Carambula and Ranghieri posted a three-set bronze medal win over the Dutch June 7 at the Croatian Major in Porec.
In Saturday’s women’s finals at the European Championships, Ludwig captured her third continental gold medal as she and German partner Kira Walkenhorst posted a 2-0 (21-18, 21-18) win in 37 minutes over Evgenia Ukolova and Ekaterina Birlova of Russia. Poland's Kinga Kolosinska and Monika Brzostek posted a 2-0 (21-17, 22-20) win in 40 minutes over Natalia Dubovcova and Dominika Nestarcova of the Slovak Republic to win the bronze medal.
