Arrivare in alto è difficile, restarci …ancora di più. Ma Alessandro Balzan, quello che chiamavamo ‘cordolo’ per la sua capacità di ‘accorciare’ il percorso-gara tagliando al massimo ogni curva, non solo si conferma, ma ci prova a volare più in alto ancora.
E poi , vincere o andare sul podio, aiuta a sorridere; così Alex figlio di Gianni l’Avvocato targato Fetonte City è sempre più fotogenico sulla sua Ferrari 488 GT3 numero 63 della Scuderia Corsa protagonista in America come sempre.

E noi che lo conosciamo bene fin da bambino, lo onoriamo da adulto come sempre lasciando parlare i numeri, cioè i Dati ufficiali by races.ferrari in Italiano ( aspettative comprese) e by Scuderia Ferarri Corsa in inglese-americano che ne certificano le sue Champion’s performance.

ANTEPRIMA NEWS (( by races.ferrari.com, 16.03.2018 ) / IMSA, 12 Ore di Sebring – Pole e prima fila per le Ferrari
Sebring, 16 marzo 2018 – Pole position in classe GT-Daytona (GTD) e prima fila in classe GT-Le Mans (GTLM): qualifiche positive per la Ferrari alla 12 Ore di Sebring, gara nella quale si è imposta 12 volte in senso assoluto cogliendo anche 21 affermazioni di categoria. A centrare la pole è stato Daniel Serra, al volante della Ferrari 488 GT3 del team Spirit of Race che in gara dividerà la vettura con l’equipaggio campione del mondo FIA WEC in classe GTE-Am formato da Paul Dalla Lana, Mathias Lauda e Pedro Lamy. La prima fila è arrivata in classe GT-Le Mans in cui la 488 GTE del team Risi Competizione si è piazzata per appena 58 millesimi alle spalle della BMW di Connor De Philippi, Alexander Sims e Bill Auberlen. In entrambe le categorie GT è stato battuto il record del circuito.
GTLM. In classe GTLM a salire sulla vettura del team Risi Competizione è stato James Calado che ha sfruttato al meglio l’agilità della 488 GTE nelle sconnessioni che caratterizzano la pista della Florida, che è ben nota per essere un banco di prova severissimo per le vetture. Il campione del mondo FIA WEC ha fermato i cronometri a 1’55”897, ad un soffio da De Philippi-Auberlen-Sims.
GTD. Oltre alla vettura di Spirit of Race, nettamente la più veloce delle qualifiche come già era accaduto a Daytona, in classe GTD ci sono altre due Ferrari impegnate. Gunnar Jeannette ha piazzato la 488 GT3 numero 63 del team Scuderia Corsa in sesta posizione, un risultato positivo che permetterà al pilota americano così come ad Alessandro Balzan e Cooper MacNeil di dare battaglia in gara. Nono posto per Frankie Montecalvo, Bill Sweedler e Townsend Bell sulla vettura gemella contraddistinta dal numero 64.
Programma. La 12 Ore di Sebring prenderà il via sabato alle 17.40 CET per concludersi alle prime luci del mattino. La gara sarà visibile fin dalle qualifiche sul sito internet IMSA.com.

Sebring, 17 marzo 2018 – La seconda gara del campionato IMSA SportsCar Championsip (nonché secondo round della North American Endurance Cup) ha visto le Ferrari protagonista nell’edizione numero 66 della 12 Ore di Sebring. La gara si è disputata in perfette condizioni atmosferiche e per lunghi periodi di gara è stata disputata ad un passo molto sostenuto. Nel segmento centrale della corsa si è assistito a varie fasi di neutralizzazione mentre le ultime due ore sono state un lungo e appassionante sprint in bandiera verde che ha visto nuovamente le Ferrari protagoniste.
GT-Daytona. Per il terzo anno consecutivo la Ferrari 488 GT3 numero 63 è salita sul podio della 12 Ore di Sebring. La vettura guidata da Alessandro Balzan, già sul podio lo scorso anno e vincitore nel 2016, Cooper MacNeil e Gunnar Jeannette è giunta seconda al termine di un ultimo stint tutto all’attacco che ha visto protagonista il pilota italiano. Il campione in carica, dopo essere sempre rimasto nelle prime sei o sette posizioni, ha iniziato una rimonta appassionante che lo ha portato ad una serie di sorpassi spettacolari tra cui uno alla curva 17 ai danni della Mercedes di Jeroen Bleekemolen che ha garantito alla vettura di Scuderia Corsa il secondo gradino del podio alle spalle della Lamborghini del Paul Miller Racing guidata da Sellers-Lewis-Snow.
Lavoro di squadra. “Il lavoro di squadra è alla base di questo risultato – ha detto Balzan sul podio – Nelle prime fasi è stato difficile gestire la vettura perché avevamo lavorato per avere un bilanciamento perfetto nelle ultime tre ore, dopo il tramonto del sole, e devo dire che anche Cooper (MacNeil) e Gunnar (Jeannette) hanno disputato una corsa di altissimo livello. Questo risultato è il frutto di un grande sforzo da parte di tutta la squadra, inclusi i tecnici e i meccanici”. La Ferrari che partiva in pole position, la numero 51 del team Spirit of Race di Daniel Serra, Paul Dalla Lana, Pedro Lamy e Mathias Lauda, è stata penalizzata al via da un tamponamento con conseguente foratura che ha pregiudicato ul buon risultato. Anche peggio è andata alla Ferrari numero 64 di Scuderia Corsa che è stata coinvolta in un incidente nelle prime fasi di gara.
GT-Le Mans. Gara da protagonisti ma caratterizzata da un finale poco esaltante quella della Ferrari 488 GTE del team Risi Competizione impegnata in classe GT-Le Mans. Dopo essere stata al comando per lunghi tratti della corsa, James Calado, Alessandro Pier Guidi e Toni Vilander si sono dovuti accontentare di bissare il quinto posto della 24 Ore di Daytona nella gara che è stata vinta dalla Porsche di Tandy-Pilet-Makowiecki.

SEBRING, FL (March 18, 2018) – Following a final push that would see the No. 63 Ferrari 488 GT3 advance four positions in the closing 45 minutes, Scuderia Corsa and drivers Cooper MacNeil, Gunnar Jeannette, and Alessandro Balzan would take second place during today’s 66th Annual Twelve Hours of Sebring. Serving as the second round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and North American Endurance Cup, the team would take its fourth consecutive GTD class podium in Sebring, following a third-place in 2015, win in 2016 and second-place in 2017.
Qualifying sixth, the 12-hour classic would fail to disappoint in its trademark excitement, with the tight confines of the bumpy circuit producing a string of incidents and caution periods resulting in a series of wheel-to-wheel battles.
Advancing up and down the order throughout the race, the true excitement would occur after the final round of pit stops, where Alessandro Balzan would mount a closing effort to go from sixth to the podium. With 30 minutes to go, Balzan would stalk the third-place competitor for several laps until an opportunity in traffic would allow the No. 63 to make a daring pass in the bumpy Turn 17, putting the team in a podium position by time they reached the front straight. Just 20 minutes later, a similar fight would ensue for second, eventually being presented in Turn One to elevate the team to second.
Unfortunately, the No. 64 Ferrari 488 GT3 of Bill Sweedler, Frankie Montecalvo, and Townsend Bell saw an early end as they would fall victim to a spinning prototype knocking the team out of the race within the first 30 minutes.
For Alessandro Balzan, now earning his third Sebring podium, the drive to the end brought a lot of reward.
“I had a great feeling after the previous stint,” stated Balzan. “When I went in to the final stint with sticker tires, the car felt really really good. I had great confidence in braking and great confidence in to Turn 17 where I was able to pass several cars. I want to thank Cooper and Gunnar who did an amazing job, and all of Scuderia Corsa. I am so proud of this team, this is one of the most fun races I’ve ever had, and everyone on this team put their head down and improved on everything to make a team effort.”
For Cooper MacNeil, the cumulative team effort of the program was the key to success.
“Huge team effort today,” stated MacNeil. “None of the drivers made any mistakes, none of the crew members made any mistakes, and we just ran as fast as we could for as long as we could. We didn’t have the fastest car out there but we had the most consistent, and that’s what it takes to get on the podium. The Ferrari was flawless, a complete team effort, and hats off to the team for getting us another podium.”
For Gunnar Jeannette, great pit work would highlight a fantastic effort.
“We made up a good few spots as we cycled through the pits,” stated Jeannette. “The guys did an amazing job on the last couple pit stops, got us out in good time, and here we are on the podium.”
Finally, for Team Owner Giacomo Mattioli, the depth of Scuderia Corsa would once again shine through adversity.
“To take our fourth consecutive podium at Sebring felt great and is a testament to the talent of our team,” stated Mattioli. “I am very pleased with the performance of everyone, from the drivers to the crew who gave their 100 percent. Our car was strong when it mattered the most, at the end of the race. I’m really happy for Cooper and Gunnar, and once again Alessandro proved why he is a champion. Although the outcome was unfortunate for the 64, as they were knocked out early in the race by a spinning prototype, I’m glad that Frankie was ok.”
With the “36 Hours of Florida” now behind, all efforts will turn to the sprint-racing season, beginning in May at the famed Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Expanding the team across two programs, both the next round of the IMSA championship as well as Ferrari Challenge North America will take place from May 4-6, with IMSA at Mid-Ohio and Ferrari Challenge at Laguna Seca Raceway in California.
