Vittoria la fotofinish delle cinesi sulle tedesche; bronzo per le brasiliane Lili & Seixas che nei ‘quarti’’ avevano sudato tre set per eliminare le italiane Menegatti & Cicolari.
Come a dire che, visto il livello alto che regna nel “TOP TEN RANKING” della beach volley mondiale, davvero la vittoria è sempre più spesso allo sprint e al fotofinish.

<< E' stata resa nota la composizione delle pools del prossimo Mondiale di Beach Volley che si svolgera' in Polonia a Stare Jablonki dal 1-7 luglio. Le azzurre Cicolari-Menegatti sono state inserite nella pool H insieme a: Borger-Buthe (Ger), Radarong-Udomchavee (Tha) e Arvaniti-Karagkouni (Gre).
L'altra coppia femminile, invece, composta da Laura Giombini e Daniela Gioria, fara' parte della pool M con: Bekier-Oleksy (Pol), Lili-Seixas (Bra), Elwin-Iatika (Van).
Sul fronte maschile gli azzurri Nicolai-Lupo gareggeranno nella pool J con: Brink-Fuchs (Ger), Lucena-Hyden (Usa) e Saxton-Schalk (Can). Ai gemelli Ingrosso e' toccata la pool B: Alison-Emanuel (Bra), Plavins-Peda (Lat), Lech-Wojtasik (Pol)>>.

<< Conclusa per le coppie italiane femminili con un bilancio di una vittoria e una sconfitta la prima giornata di gare nei Campionati del Mondo in corso di svolgimento a Stare Jablonki, Polonia. Le prime a scendere in campo sono state Greta Cicolari e Marta Menegatti che hanno battuto con un netto 2-0 (21-13, 21-12) le greche Arvaniti-Karagkouni.
Domani il duo dell'Aeronautica Militare affronterà le thailandesi Radarong-Udomchavee alle ore 15.
Esordio amaro, invece, per Daniela Gioria e Laura Giombini che hanno perso 2-0 (21-16, 21-19) contro le brasiliane Lili-Seixas. Domani di nuovo in campo alle ore 8.45 contro le padroni di casa Bekier-Oleksy.
Giorno di inizio della rassegna iridata domani anche per i ragazzi: Paolo Ingrosso e Matteo Cecchini (Pool B) sfideranno i lettoni Plavins-Peda (ore 13), Paolo Nicolai e Daniele Lupo (Pool J) affronteranno invece i canadesi Saxton-Schalk (ore 19).

<< Proseguono le gare a Stare Jablonki, Polonia, dove sono in corso di svolgimento i Campionati del Mondo di beach volley. Per quanto riguarda il tabellone femminile, la seconda giornata e' iniziata con la sconfitta di Daniela Gioria e Laura Giombini che sono state battute 2-1 (9-21, 21-19, 15-10) dalle padroni di casa Bekier-Oleksy; nel primo pomeriggio e' tata la volta di Greta Cicolari e Marta Menegatti che invece si sono imposte (21-15, 21-16) sulle thailandesi Radarong-Udomchavee collezionando così la loro seconda vittoria consecutiva.
Giornata d’esordio per il tabellone maschile dove i primi scendere in campo sono stati Matteo Cecchini e Paolo Ingrosso sconfitti 2-0 (21-17, 21-16) dai lettoni Plavins-Peda. Comincia bene la rassegna iridata, invece, per Daniele Lupo e Paolo Nicolai che hanno superato 2-1 (10-21, 21-17, 15-13) in rimonta i canadesi Saxton-Schalk.

<< Nel Mondiale di beach volley, in corso di svolgimento a Stare Jablonki in Polonia, le azzurre Cicolari e Menegatti sono state superate per 2-1 (21-16 17-21 15-13) dalle tedesche Borger-Buthe al termine di un match pieno di capovolgimenti di punteggio. Le ragazze italiane chiudono al secondo posto la loro pool, ma accedono egualmente alla fase ad eliminazione diretta e domani affronteranno la coppia tedesca Bieneck-Grobner. Successo fondamentale, invece, per Daniela Gioria e Laura Giombini che hanno battuto la coppia di Vanuatu Elwin-Iatika 2-1 (16-21, 21-18, 15-11), qualificandosi, come una delle migliori terze, ai sedicesimi di finale, dove ad attenderle troveranno Borger-Buthe (Ger).
Sul fronte maschile gli azzurri Cecchini-Ingrosso hanno dato forfait nel seconda gara della Pool, contro i fortissimi brasiliani Alison-Emanuel, campioni iridati in carica. Seconda vittoria per Nicolai-Lupo, che nella gara contro gli statunitensi Lucena-Hyden si sono imposti nettamente 2-0 (21-17, 21-15). I ragazzi di Paulao conservano così la vetta della pool e domani nell'ultimo incontro sfideranno i tedeschi Fuchs-Kaczmarek.>>

<< Nel Mondiale di beach volley continua la corsa delle azzurre Greta Cicolari e Marta Menegatti, vincitrici nei sedicesimi di finale sulle tedesche Bieneck-Grobner 2-1 (18-21, 21-15, 15-11), al termine di un match molto combattuto. Dopo aver perso il primo set le azzurre, si sono riscattate nel secondo, per poi piazzare l'allungo vincente nelle fasi cruciali del tie-break. Domani Greta e Marta negli ottavi di finale affronteranno le padroni di casa polacche Kolosinska-Brzostek, teste di serie n.1 del tabellone femminile. Sul fronte maschile secondo forfait consecutivo per Ingrosso-Cecchini, quest'ultimo fermato da un virus influenzale. Gli azzurri chiudono cosi' il Mondiale in 37esima posizione.>>

<< Grande prestazione delle azzurre Cicolari e Menegatti nei Mondiali di beach volley in svolgimento a Stare Jablonki. Le ragazze italiane hanno guadagnato l'accesso ai quarti di finale travolgendo le beniamine di casa polacche Kolosinska e Brzpstek 2-0 (21-14 21-12). davanti ad un folto pubblico che ha incessantemente incitato le sue beniamine, le azzurre hanno giocato un match esemplare imponendo sin da subito la loro maggiore qualità, al servizio ed in difesa, ma anche a muro.
L'Italia è volata 14-7 prima di avere un passaggio a vuoto che ha permesso alle polacche di arrivare 16-13. Nel frangente più equilibrato c'è stato uno scambio davvero prolungato e spettacolare, chiuso da Cicolari.
Greta e Marta si sono portate sul 18-13 ed in pratica la gara si è chiusa lì con un secondo set in discesa.
Per il match che potrebbe aprire le porte alla zona medaglia Cicolari e Menegatti torneranno in campo alle 18, dall'altra parte della rete troveranno Lili e Seixas (terze nell'ultimo Grand Slam a Roma) che si sono imposte 2-1 alle olandesi Keizer-Van Iersel.>>

<< Nel Mondiale di Beach Volley che si sta disputando a Stare Jablonki (Polonia), la corsa delle azzurre Greta Cicolari e Marta Menegatti si e' fermata ad un passo dalla semifinale. Le ragazze dell'Aeronautica Militare, infatti, sono state sconfitte nei quarti di finale dalle brasiliane Lili-Seixas 1-2 (22-20, 15-21, 13-15), alla fine di una gara combattutissima e ricca di emozioni. L'andamento dell'incontro ha visto le azzurre imporsi nel primo set, per poi subire nel secondo la reazione della coppia verdeoro. Il tie-break si è giocato punto a punto, Cicolari-Menegatti dopo esser andate in svantaggio riuscivano a rimontare, ma alla fine erano costrette a cedere alle brasiliane. Con il quinto posto conclusivo le ragazze di Lissandro eguagliano il miglior piazzamento di una coppia italiana ai Campionati del Mondo, appartenente a Solazzi-Bruschini: 5° posto nel 2001 a Klagenfurt. Nel tabellone maschile prosegue, invece, il cammino degli azzurri Daniele Lupo e Paolo Nicolai, che si sono qualificati per gli ottavi di finale, grazie al successo sui venezuelani Hernandez-Fane 2-0 (22-20, 21-19). Una gara combattuta, come dimostrano i parziali, per la coppia dell'Aeronautica Militare, costretta spesso a inseguire gli avversari, ma sempre lucida nei momenti chiave. Domani i ragazzi di Paulao affronteranno negli ottavi gli spagnoli Herrera-Gavira (ore 10.45). Le due coppie si sono recentemente affrontate nella semifinale dei Giochi del Mediterraneo e in quel caso prevalsero gli iberici.>>

<< Stare Jablonki, Poland, July 6, 2013 – Karla Borger and Britta Buthe keep on writing history this week. After becoming the first German team to reach the final four of a women’s FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship, they are also the first European team to ever play in the final.
So far it has only been US or Brazilian teams that played for the women’s world title, but at the Mazury 2013 edition both USA and Brazil are missing.
Borger and Buthe beat USA’s 2009 world champion April Ross and her stand-in partner Whitney Pavlik 2-0 (21-15 21-19) and China’s 2011 bronze medallists Chen Xue and Zhang Xi defeated Brazil’s Liliane Maestrini and Barbara Seixas 2-0 (21-11 21-17) in the other semifinal on Saturday.
Unbelievable week for Germany
The German team had an excellent start this week topping the pool with three wins, but never would have thought they would end up in the final. “It feels really weird”, Buthe said. “Everyone is looking at me right now, it’s unbelievable we are in the final of a World Championship. Somebody will have to sit us down and make us believe it. “
“I think we did so well because we did not have any pressure. Our goal was 9th place, 5th would have been really good, but to make it to the final... We did not even think about that.”
In the first set against Ross and Pavlik, who filled in at the last moment for injured Jennifer Kessy and who’s best result so far was 25th on the World Tour, the Germans hardly made any mistakes.
In the second Borger and Buthe were trailing till 17-17, then it was point by point and at 20-19 Borger ended the match with another great shot to the back of the court.
“I think we were very strong mentally. We know what the other one needs. Karla kept me calm and told me exactly what to do”, Buthe said.
Xue and Zhang Xi aim to become first Chinese world champions
China's Xue Zhang Xi can become the first Chinese world champions tonight at 18.00. It's only the second time China have reached a FIVB World Championship final after Jia Tian and Jie Wang lost to Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh in 2007.
The Chinese started aggressively and overpowered Lili and Seixas in the first, but Brazil took a two-point lead at the beginning of the second. China was trailing until Xue’s excellent block got them a two-point lead at 19-17. A powerful spike by Zhang Xi and another block by Xue finished the match at 21-17.
“Brazil moved us around a lot in the second set”, Zhang Xi said. “But we played a good match because my partner was blocking well and it was easy for me to play.”
The Chinese pair missed out on the last three World Tour events to play on the national tour and needed some time to adjust to the international level again, even losing one of their pool play matches at the start of the event.
“We were not sure if we would do well today, because we did not play our best in the first three matches. But I think we are finally getting our rhythm. We are very excited, because our dream is about to come true.”>>

<< Stare Jablonki, Poland, July 6, 2013 – Chen Xue and Zhang Xi needed six match points, but lived up to their status as first seeds by lifting their first major title when they beat Britta Buthe and Karla Borger in the women’s gold medal match at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships Mazury 2013.
The Chinese pair beat the German duo 18-21, 21-17, 21-19 to add the gold medals to the bronzes they won at Rome 2011 and the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and become the first Asian side to be crowned world champions.
It was the Germans who started the stronger. They didn’t let the Chinese settle and the forced them into a number of mistake. Xue and Zhang Xi fought back in the second and after Xue brought up set point with a block, the Germans saved one, but couldn’t stop them capitalising on the second.
The lead swung back and forth throughout the first set and it was the Germans who had the first match point. The Chinese saved it, but then wasted five of their own before they won.
“We played our won game,” Xue said. “We always knew we had the power. It was a very good match and we didn’t play very well, so we had to take it step by step. We missed some points in the first set, so we had to focus even more.
“This is our first world title, so it is very important to us. We enjoyed ourselves very much at the tournament. We didn’t know a lot about this team and I think they have grown a lot.”
“It is my dream,” Zhang Xi added. “I’m dreaming. I’m so excited.”
Even though they were seeded number one and won their opening fixture, Xue and Zhang Xi then slumped to a loss in their second game and showed signs of rustiness in the third after they had missed the three FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Grand Slams before the start of the tournament.
However, they started to hit form in their first elimination round match against Brazil’s Maria Antonelli and Agatha Bednarczuk and didn’t look back for the rest of the tournament.
For Borger and Buthe the silver medal is their first medal at a senior FIVB level. They signalled their potential at the Rome Grand Slam, the final tournament before the World Championships, by finishing fourth.
“Of course we are a little sad that we lost the final, but we can take positives from the final,” Buthe said. “We just lost to the best team in the world and hopefully we will improve and next time do better. But we shouldn’t regret what we did.”
Lili and Seixas deny USA pair
Liliane Maestrini and Barbara Seixas won their second set of bronze medals in two tournaments when they beat 2009 world champion April Ross and Whitney Pavlik.
The Brazilians finished third at the Rome Grand Slam and repeated the result when they beat the Americans 2-0 (21-18, 21-15).
“It was a very good match,” Lili said. “The US were tough, but we played really well. We didn’t play our best, but we stuck together.
“We are exhausted after six days here. We are a new team and have played just six tournaments, so we are really happy to finish in third place.”
The ninth FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships began on July 1 with the opening round of women’s pool play matches. The tournament concludes on Sunday with the men’s semifinals and medal matches.
